Since 2009, the official mascot of Estrella Mountain Community College has been the “Estrella Mountain Lion.” The name, though, leaves some ambiguity on whether the mascot is the “Lion of Estrella Mountain” or the “Mountain Lion of Estrella.” Since our mascot is never referred to as the “Estrella Mountain Mountain Lion,” there is some inconsistency as a result.
Estrella Mountain Community College is growing, but the lanes on the parking lots are not. While the completion of the new Performing Arts Center has freed up more parking spaces, it doesn’t solve basic difficulties caused by the bursts of traffic made by the growing number of full-time students.
Estrella Mountain Community College is mourning the passing of Bryan K. Tippett. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tippett died on February 25, 2015; he was 57 years old.
He served as EMCC’s vice president of academic affairs, a position he held since 2000.
As part of Fine and Performing Arts Week, Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) held “StoriEstrella”, a storytelling concert where past and current students where able to put their new skills to the test in front of their fellow students, family, and friends of all ages.
One student who got to perform a story was Mariesa Rojas. Rojas told a story entitled “Angelita and the Giants,” which is like Snow White but is a Brazilian tale. One fun fact about her tale is that instead of a poisoned apple, there are poisoned slippers that cause the princess to fall into a deep sleep.
College can be very overwhelming, especially when you have a busy schedule. Sometimes finding a quiet place to study or getting individual help can be very difficult. Many students in college experience stress, but Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) has several resources designed to aid in student success.

The custodians, grounds team, and maintenance team are responsible for why EMCC is such a clean environment. There is a lot of work that they do at EMCC that affects how students learn.
To celebrate Black History Month, Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) presented an art exhibit entitled “Civil Rights in America” at the beginning of the year. The exhibit featured seven photos and nine photomontages by Stephen Marc.
“It is the perfect weather to be out here today! So many great opportunities and a positive vibe,” said student Analise Soto at the Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) Student Success Fair held this past March.
“Help,” according to dictionary.com is defined as “to provide what is necessary to accomplish a task or satisfy a need.” It is good to ask for help. At school, tutors are there to help you make your life that much easier.
At Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), tutoring comes in various forms and many subjects. There is tutoring for math, biology, writing, as well as chemistry and other subjects. For students Samantha Sunderland, Lacey Holstein, and Elaina Pettit, tutoring is an effective tool that they use whenever they need help.
