HES100: Encouraging People to Care

HES100 Instructor Annann Hong

According to the Center for Disease Control, "Health is more than the absence of disease; it is a resource that allows people to realize their aspirations, satisfy their needs and to cope with the environment in order to live a long, productive, and fruitful life. In this sense, health enables social, economic and personal development fundamental to well-being."

Well-being is a crucial part of our lives and in an effort to recognize the importance of student health, Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) offers a course called Healthful Living 100.

How the Honors Program Honors its Students

Honors Student Villalpando

All students, upon enrolling in Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), have had to take that nerve-wracking test that determines what level of classes they are assigned. One student, Hyacinth Villalpando, still remembers that day she took the EMCC placement test.

Walking into that dim room with its tiny computers, she did not have the highest expectations, except to make classes at the one hundred level. However, to her surprise, that was the day she discovered that she had made it into Honors.

Regain Control over Schoolwork

It’s no secret that college can be stressful. Add on work and trying to keep up with your social life, and it feels like there is never enough time in the day. Sometimes, you have so much going on that you forget to do your homework or you leave it all to the last minute and you get overwhelmed.

Arizona Lawmakers Want to Block Common Core

Arizona Capitol building

The Common Core education standards, which were a major topic in Arizona’s 2014 elections, are now being attacked in a new bill passed by the Arizona House Education Committee. The major source of Common Core’s controversy has been the federal nature of the requirements, and the new bill, HB2190, attempts to give Arizona more rights to its education requirements, including the prevention of future adoption of any education requirements that are similar to twenty other states’ requirements.
