Teaching Educators What it Means to Care

Club members sharing teaching techniques.

How many teachers have put on a film, or told students to open a book and read instead of working with them and encouraging them? While there are some inspirational, courageous teachers out there worthy of a Hilary Swank Freedom Writers title, there are not enough.

According to Census.Gov there are 77 million children enrolled in the United States alone. This means 27 percent of our population's future and education depend on its teachers. However, student action has been taken to put quality back into teaching thanks to the Future Teachers of America Club (FTC).

Super Bowl’s effect on AZ, after the weekend

Glendale mayor Jerry Weiers has publicly talked about how he doesn’t expect Glendale to profit from the 2015 Super Bowl. Weiers cites losses the city faced after hosting the 2008 Super Bowl, and expects potential profits to be drawn away by the bigger names of Phoenix and Scottsdale. After the construction projects and blimps disappear, Glendale could be facing up to $3 million in losses.

In spite of the mayor’s ambivalence, Glendale has seen new businesses open in time to serve Super Bowl crowds, including four new restaurants and a spa.

Veterans Club Offers Camaraderie, Support

EMCC Veterans Club

As a student at Estrella Mountain Community College, I understand the value of camaraderie amongst other Veterans. Who else will understand you better than another fellow veteran student? Re-integrating back into civilian life, yet alone back into college life can be difficult at times, especially when it has been over 10 years, and for some of us 20 years, since we last set foot in a classroom.
